Coach Karsten: We'll Make The Best Out Of This Short Preparation Period

National Security Council (MKN) has given permission for a centralized training program for several sports including football as the 2021 season will officially kick off early next month.

This is good news for the officials and football players after undergoing almost a month without proper training due to the implementation of Movement Control Order (MCO) 2.0.

During the recent lockdown, the coaches in Selangor FC did their best in making sure the players are ready for any possibilities. The players were given a set of individual programs, had to perform exercises on Zoom and received analytical review on tactical gameplay through video sessions.

However, these programs are deemed insufficient to prepare players to perform at their full level for the upcoming matches. After the latest announcement last week, each team now has only less than three weeks to prepare before the league  resumes.

Selangor FC Head Coach, Karsten Neitzel could not hide his mixed feelings about the brief training period of the team. Nevertheless, he continues to be positive and revises his strategy to make the most of it.

"Of course, all football fans are happy that this sport will be back soon and this is also the news that all Selangor FC officials and players are looking forward to," said Karsten.

"However, with less than three weeks for preparation, the coaches need to plan each training session meticulously, so the players will get the most of it. At the same time, we need to make sure that they (the players) do not get any injuries before the league starts," he added.

"The rest of Selangor FC coaches and I will do our best to restore the Red Giants players’ match fitness as soon as possible in order for us to succeed, as this is our goal for the upcoming season.”

For the record, Selangor FC has planned three friendly matches before their first league match to gauge the compatibility of the squad members with the game plan on the field and to ensure they are in the best condition, both physically and mentally.

Selangor FC wishes Coach Karsten, the coaching lineups and the Red Giants players the best of luck for the upcoming new season. May this season be better than the previous one.
